Medaille für Verdienste im Brandschutz (Medal for Merit in Fire Protection) (1968)

The Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic instituted this 1 class decoration on the 24th August, 1968.
To individuals and collectives of the volunteers fire-brigade, fire protection inspectors, fire protection aide, enterprises, other persons and collectives up to 6 persons. It could be awarded several times.
With the award a funds premium of 500, - M for individuals and 1000, - M for collectives was donated.
If awarded to a fire-brigade collective, a symbol could be used on the flag and vehicles.
The award took place via the Minister of the Interior and Chief of the German people’s police on the 1st May (international combat day and holiday of the workers), 1st July (day of the German people’s police), 7th October (day of the republic), or immediately after special achievements.
The medal was carried on the left upper breast side.
Wearing is permitted after 1990.

Award period: 1968 - 1990

Awarded for outstanding achievements in fire protection, in particular during the fire prevention, fire limitation and fire fighting, as well as for the protection of citizens and their valuables from fires and the dangers arising from them.

Bravery and selfless work fighting against fires

Special services with the increasing readiness, further advanced training of the members of the fire-brigades, maintenance and advancement of the technical equipment

Dimensions: 32 mm in diameter; ribbon bar: 24 mm x 14 mm.
