Medal "For The Capture Of Berlin".

Look at the design of the medal in the right side: Can you imagine the reaction of Stalin to the inclusion of US and UK flags on the medal?!?!

Medal "For The Capture Of Berlin".

Hi Guys, I though I would share these with you. Even though they are very common items. I am still a beginner when it comes to awards.

I think these are all the versions available.

They were an instant collection bought via E bay. I purchased these after returnng home from Berlin after going there for the 60th Anniversary of the battle.

Cheers, Ade.

Medal "For The Capture Of Berlin" Document.

This lucky chap was awarded two Berlin medals.

The right is apparently his assigned unit, 199 Guards Artillery Regiment, and the other was probably issued by a unit he supported or was assigned to earlier, 402 Artillery Brigade, 94 Guards Rifle Division (on left) and signed by HSU Guards Lieutenant Colonel Kosmach.

Also note that both documents were awarded within 4 days of each other in NOV 45 and the serial numbers are relatively close.

Hi Paul,

In this case, is he entitled to wear it twice ? :D:p What do the regulations say about such a case...

Cheers.

Ch.

Your opinion is appreciated, the weight of medal 18.2 gr, thickness 2.5 mm.

It's nice die stack , some gilding still remains. But, why

When this medal arrived it was cowered by paint, not a good job, you could scratch it by nail. I washed it by soup in hot water and the brass looking paint gone. Remain gilding is really good one as far as I can tell.

Thank you for you help. Any idea why it was stack in copper? Anyone seen this kind of things before please?

Re: Capture of Berlin made of copper ?

What makes you think it's copper? It looks like stained brass, to me.

Where are all these "copper" medals coming from???

Re: Capture of Berlin made of copper ?

ph3s,

I have seen this phenomenon before. It´s a kind of dezincification of the brass and the copper in the brass turnes to get "red".

best regards
Andreas

Re: Capture of Berlin made of copper ?

Guys,

Some Berlin and VOG medals made of brass have copper rings. Conversely, some valiant labor in WW2, made of copper, have brass rings. Go figure...
