DPRK Kepi
I recently got this nice North Korean Army kepi out of China and had a few questions about it. If anyone can give me some details ( I know that it is difficult with NK items) it would be great.
When did the North Korean Army start using the kepi? Any way to tell age of the Kepi? This one shows a lot of use. Thanks! DougD PS-Sorry for poor quality of the 2nd photo. |

Army (quite obviously) Officer's. Looking at the cockade I'd go with (late) 1990's. Also going on condition I seriously doubt this belonged to anyone stationed in Pyong Yang and most likely didn't have far to travel to get over the Chinese frontier. I also believe that it has only recently been "retired".
It's not a size 63 by any chance? They started wearing them a long time ago - http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...tml#post165721.

Re: DPRK Kepi
And what is the significance of the red vertical stripes? They don't appear on the picture in the link CtahhR posted.

Re: DPRK Kepi
Don't they indicate an officer rank as well as the branch of service?

Re: DPRK Kepi
Exactly that. The "cords" are for officers and red for infantry.
These are probably one of the most common DPRK items of uniform that you are going to find. There are probably hundreds of thousands of them out there "somewhere". Usually also only found in tiny (in comparison to European) sizes too (the lower end of the 50s).
