Here's a Type 4 number 16419 which I picked up in 2009 for $25.

Nice. That sets a new observed lower point in the serial number range of the type 3.2 (10005-15000). Suspect that variety was 10000-15000, though Polar Star numbers are all over the map.

Urnukh, by the way, gives some incredibly detailed, archive-based, research in his extraordinary 2010 book. I am still weaving his analysis into my Mongolian work.

Much needs re-thinking when it comes to the Polar Star.

I've had #499 for a little while, and just acquired #498! What are the odds of that, I am a happy camper! :D Wish research were available for them; I believe both came from Eastern Europe..given to Soviet advisers? Thanks for looking!

I really enjoy the "quirk" of consecutive awards although I don't have any yet (other than those 2 Bulgarian Orders with the same serial due to a mistake of some kind).

There were consecutive Order of Sukh Baatar's on auction in NYC a few months ago (or was it longer? can't remember). It was the last screwback (800 i believe) and the first pinback (801 then).

Have got something magnificent coming my way - while not consecutive awards, it'll appeal to those collectors who appreciate people who just get a large number of the same award (Polar Stars / Red Banner of Labour in this case)

When awards are serial numbered it's almost impossible to hoard more than 1 of them. Numbered, Researchable awards really do it for me. There is no chance they can be interchanged or "made up" for the sake of making a quick buck. Award #17 goes with booklet #17 to recipient #17 (or a close approximation).
