Speaking about the serial numbers... Here are two consecutively numbered PSs with corrections in the serial numbers. The proverbial uncle Vania having another bad day?

Alexei,

Are you sure SN corrections were done at the mint?

I am sceptical, as reverses of both PS look different, they are probably not from the same batch.

Absolutely positive. BTW, this is not the first time I see Mongolian awards with mint changes to the serial numbers.

Taken from Mongolian Shamanism

"Among the Mongol and Siberian indigenous peoples, the universe is conceived as a living organism. The polar star is a celestial nail, also called the Golden Nail, and the Altaic shamans decorate their drums with the symbols of Venus and the constellation of the Great Bear. In Buryat shamanistic symbolism, the World-Tree is connected to the World-River, which interlinks with all the three worlds. It must be traversed by the shaman in order to reach any part of the Otherworld."

Take a look at the article, it explains the religious nature of it in better detail.

Also, taken from Shamanism (Tengerism) in Mongolia

"In Siberia as well as the native people in America believe that exists three worlds. In some ways the upper and lower world or simply a concept of parallel worlds. The ruler of the lower world is Erleg Khan (with evil spirit), son of Father Heaven. He has authority over the disposition of souls, when and where they will incarnate. The ruler of the upper world is Ulgen, who is also a son of Father Heaven and the Creator of the world.

The ger represent the center of the world. In reality, each person stands in the center of the world. The shaman locate themselve in the center of the world during his ritual. The most familiar one is that of the place of the fire in the ger, which is the meeting point between the earth and the axis of the three worlds. Another is the toroo tree, which also creates an axis as well as a pole a center of the world. The top of the toroo tree touches the sky by the polar star, the Altan Hadaas, the sky nail which holds up all Heavens (Gods and Lords). Another image of the center of the world is the peak of Mount Sümer (see more information in what's the Shambhala), the world mountain. The peak at the center of the world is close to the polar star, and its roots rest upon a turtle in the lower world."

Well, to make things a bit more complex, the name of this order is "Order of the Polar Star" only in our habituated English translation. The real name, in Mongolian, it is "Algan Gadas Odon" (whether in Cyrillic or Mongol Bichig), and this translates better into English as "Order of the Golden Stake" or "Order of the Golden Pole". (Maybe it's all the same, maybe not. Accuracy is important?) Given the stupid locker-room jokes that surround the unfortunate common translation of name of what is called in English the "Order of the Precious Rod", it may be better that we continue to use a flawed translation for this one?

Right. Can't be any clearer:banghead .
But in a way it fits in with what Art posted above.
The old symbol, Soyombo, is that a depiction of a rod of sorts or is it completely unrelated?

Yeah, I agree.
But what do the 6 white loopy thingees represent? For some reason it suggests something related to the "northern lights", at least to me.
The rest of it's pretty standard, albeit beautiful; 6 point rayed star, state seal, red star
