Honorary Title "Meritorious Miner Of The German Democratic Republic".

Here is one of the GDR Awards that I find more interesting.
It is the old 1959 version made of 900er Silver with the stamp on the side of the Medal.
You can see the Side view with the 900 Silver Stamp.
And here it is in its original award box.
There is just the Award doc missing which is a pity :(
This Award is quite rare as the 1959 version.

Eddie.

Here is the 1967 version with it's doc. This is also 900er Silver.
As you can see the only real difference is the date on the suspention devise.

Very Nice Medal

That is a very nice medal! What does the motto "Gluck Auf!" mean translated into English? I've noticed that there have been DDR miners hats and uniforms listed on Ebay recently.

"Glück auf" (= luck up = “come back up alive) is a German miner’s greeting. Miners in Germany and other German speaking countries do not say "good luck" but “Glück auf”. The origins of this special term stem from ore mining in the 16th century, wishing luck to find ore and for the safety of the miners working underground.
