Medal "Partisan Of The Patriotic War".
I have been offered a document for the Partisan medal 1:st class. I think (this is still early talks in the deal) that it's the red booklet version. It's without photo and dated 1949. How is the situation with fakes of this document? Have anybody seen any?
What are prices on Partisan medal documents? Any help welcomed. /Kim |

Partisan Medal Doc
Gentlemen,
I recently got a Partisan 1st Class Medal from a reputable dealer, also a Forum fellow member, and it came with this Doc. Can you please help identifying the type of Doc? Is this the normal, definitive Doc for Partisans, or is this just a temporary Doc issued before the recipient got the final usual Doc? It seems to be a Latvian Doc, am I right? Can you please also let me know the recipient's name and translate what it is written? I believe that either the Medal, or the Doc, or both (not sure about this) already belong to another fellow member... Thanks a lot for any help, Dolf |

Awarded to Janus Janovich Richter. I've been collecting partisan-related items for several years and have never seen a Latvian document - EXTREMELY nice and rare since the Baltics weren't the most receptive to the Soviets. Most of these are for Belorussia, Ukraine, or Russian partisans. This temporary paper was issued by the Latvian Partisan Movement HQ and would have been exchanged for a red-covered Partisan Medal document. Again, nice piece.

These temporary documents could be and were given out for most of the Soviet awards issued by a military formation in the field. I have one for a Red Star given in August 1944 they were redeemable for the proper document.

Guys,
I am sorry, but this document was indeed issued by Latvian General Staff of Partisan Movement and certifies that this person participated in WWII, that's it. It does not mention any medal. It is quite rare, as any Partisan-related document from the Baltic States, but it has nothing to do with the medal and by itself does not entitle the person to receive it. Or am I missing something here? Alexei Quote:

Wow, I'm embarrassed. I guess in my excitement to see a Baltics partisan medal document I made a mental leap. Alexei is correct, there is NO mention of the authorization of a partisan medal in the document. Thus, the document itself is rare, but only attests that someone fought in the partisan movement in Latvia, NOT authorizes a medal's awarding.
Alexei, there was only one General Staff - in Moscow. There cannot be a Latvian Partisan Movement General Staff - only a Latvian Partisan Movement Headquarters (that incidentally was subordinate to the General Staff). |

I have a question...... why do so many of the Partisan Documents that are out there have such late award dated documents? I've seen quite a few 1960-1975? Just curious...

Many of those medals were awarded initially with temporary documents, and I guess it took time to exchange them.
