Comrade Pljuta has been in the position of driver working from 1930. With machine M-1 #K-8-53-43 has worked from 1938. During this period of time has travelled 230,000 kilometres without accident or failure of his fault. From the very first days of the Patriotic War Comrade Pljuta was located at the front and all the time with M-1 #K-8-53-43. For his time being at the front of combat with German invaders the machine under the leadership of Comrade Pljuta travelled 140,000 Kilometres. All relocation took place without a single accident or failure. Repair work on his own machine Comrade Pljuta undertook by himself. All work on the restored materiel carried out before being placed. For example:

A full refurbishment of the engine, the assembly and disassembly is supposed to take 5 days, he spent 20 hours and the machine was ready to relocate.

15th October 1944 Comrade Pljuta produced the current motor repair. Supposed to take 40 hours, he spent 25 hours. His machine care is of an experienced qualified driver. Knowledge of the machine's materiel is excellent. Quickly and competently eliminates all defects of his machine. All his spare personal time he spends on preparing the machine. Always his machine is in full combat preparedness.

In the regiment working since November 1942. For this period of time has shown himself only to be on the positive side. Besides his primary work during the time destroying the German group in Belorussia took an active participation in the protection of materiel of the regiment. By night protecting planes, by day preparing his machine for relocating.

31st October 1944 during the preparation of the flight staff's lunch the heating tube in the loft of the kitchen was covered in straw, as a result from which set fire to the beams and crossbeams of the loft, Comrade Pljuta first noticed the fire and despite of danger with a group of fighters liquidated the hotbed of fire, for that he received the thanks of the command of the unit.

In the period of relocation despite of poor roads Comrade Pljuta always arrived at the place of the base ahead of schedule with accident or fault. For example: In the period of relocating in Crimea Comrade Pljuta drove 170 Kilometres in 3 hours.

Comrade Pljuta by his personal qualities tactful, polite when handling the senior commanders. Always ready to perform any task of the command.

For excellent faultless work in the regiment has received 6 gratitudes.

For his dedicated good work for the ensuring of combat tasks of the regiment Sergeant Pljuta is worthy of the Governmental Award Order "Red Star".

Re: For Combat Merits,1741898,Driver,46th Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment

Everyone knows the 46th Guards Night-Bomber Aviation Taman Regiment as the legendary "Night Witches". One of the three female aviation regiments and noted as the "Skirt Regiment" - the only one of the three regiments to remain all female after expansion. That is the legend, which is actually a myth.

Those of us that are actually well read up on the female regiments know that although the 46th were recorded as remaining purely female throughout the entire war, a few of the veterans did mention that there was in fact a single male member of the regiment - the staff driver of the Regimental Commander, Guards Major Evdokija Bershanskaja. Although his name was not recorded it would seem that Sergeant Konstantin Ivanovich Pljuta was that "only male in the regiment". This amazing find is an amazing piece of luck for me as I have been very seriously and deeply researching the members and feats of the 46th. It would be even more amazing had the staff driver truly been the only male but since obtaining his award (absolutely randomly) I've found that not to be so.

Pljuta tactfully and politely drove around the "Night Witches" for 31 months, no doubt a very enviable task.

As the number plate of his vehicle is also recorded there is considerably more chance of finding it and him in a photograph or newsreel.

This is the GAZ M-1, the standard wartime Staff Car.

(At the time of the liquidation of the fire they were in the north-east of the modern borders of Poland)
