Marshal Of Artillery Uniform.
I have just come across a picture of a Soviet NKVD general (?) and noticed that he is wearing a 1943 pattern Wave Green tunic but it is single breasted. I was not aware that these tunics were manufactured with a single breasted design. Can anybody shed any light on the matter - (Doug?).
I know there was a single breasted grey uniform for general officers and marshals before 1943 but judging from the photograph I would say that this one is definately Wave Green.

Marshal of Artillery
The photo on the right is not an NKVD general ( to see their uniforms see my thread on them) but rather is a marshal of artillery wearing a M1943 parade uniform.
While these uniforms look like they are identical to M1945 VP uniforms, they are not. They are steel grey and generals ( not marshals ) had cuff bars and not cuff embroidery. A lso, the M1943 was single breasted, not double. Also, note he is wearing a brach marshals star. DougD ps-although there was not wave green M1943 uniform , there is at least one known example of a wave green M1940 parade tunic in a private collection in moscow. Why it was made ( it was worn) is uknown. |

Thanks Doug, The reason I said it was an NKVD general was that it appeared in a book about the NKVD. Admittedly I don't have this book, just happend to see it on Ebay.
I thought it looked too dark for the M1943 Marshals parade tunic judging by the photograph though.

original NKVD generals photos...
...are really tough to find, I have only ever seen a few, and they were in older Russian language publications.

Doug,
This was from a Russian book. I have enclosed the cover, maybe you are familiar with it. Sorry! Just realised this is for both Army and NKVD uniforms....here is a section of the illustrations.

Yup, I have this small guide; good drawings, but not a huge lot of good original photos.
