I agree with Doug on these points.
I have heard 1947 for the date the 6-sided (flat end) replaced the 5-sided (pointy end) but I have never seen the regs. As Doug says, Generals, and I think all naval officers, always had the 6-sided. The 4-sided (angle head) are associated with the opne collar tunics so, as Viking Raider says you get 1949, 1954, 1955, 1958 and 1969 dates depending on which type of tunic. There was also the unique NKVD M43 bottle-shaped boards used only 1943-44. To add to the confusion, it is possible that some of the minor changes occured by seperate order (ukazy) and not by an actual regulation update. The best example of this is the M45 Generals and Marshals Victory Parade uniform which was only introduced by orders to tailors. Shawn |
