Full Cavalier Grave Robbers
Gents,
Came across this Russian article: old.nr2.ru / В городе Умань воры разрыли могилу ветерана, чтобы украсть ордена (ФОТО) / Покойный был полным кавалером ордена Славы / 13.05.12 / Новый In summary, in Ukraine this past May authorities discovered the grave of FCOG Vasily Karandevich was violated for the purpose of stealing his decorations which were buried with him 17 years earlier. He fought from Stalingrad to Austria as a sniper/recon scout. Regards, slava1stclass |

Re: Full Cavalier Grave Robbers
It doesn't really have much information if I'm reading it right.
I don't believe it states if they actually stole the awards (or body) or not. Nor does it mention who did it. Fortunately the article isn't graphic (beyond showing a half dug grave) Unfortunately grave robbing (or just desecration) is all too common a practice. From my experience digging graves (not re-digging graves) you would have to be rather eager to be doing the digging - specially in the dark. One favourable thing though will be the fact that they're not digging new ground. It wasn't a guided tour was it?

Re: Full Cavalier Grave Robbers
The article does mention that the cavalier was buried with his awards. This is absolutely sick. It would seem that the heinous crime happened some time ago..it looks like the robbers targeted the grave not only because of the photo, but also because of the grave's poor maintenance.. Watch out for awards from this recipient on the market:
Vasily Karandevich. http://www.warheroes.ru/hero/hero.asp?Hero_id=10252 His awards were unusual in their own right, he was awarded three Glories 3rd Class in 1943 and had the proper 1st and 2nd classes awarded in 1967. |

Re: Full Cavalier Grave Robbers
This grouping will have to be sold on the black market now. Such a unique grouping will not be posted on line unnoticed.
