Jubilee Medal "90 Years Of The October Revolution".
I saw this today and being a OR freak I felt I had to add it here:
The description is as follows: Memorable medal “90 anniversary of October Revolution”. Reduced circulation - only 1000 pcs were issued. It was made by special order in medal workshop of Lisichansk (Lugansk area) Customer - Locomotive Construction Plant bears the name of October Revolution. Looks nice.

Are these truely "limited editions"? I get a funny feeling that if they were limited to 1000 strikes they'd not show up too often on ebay for $30... I presume they are 'Umalatova' issues, is that right? Is there a great deal of distinction between 'Umaltova' medals and generic, commemorative medals issued mainly for <gasp> capitolistic gain??? :wow :yow :weird

If this is a 'Umalatova' issue Medal as far as i know they are by no means limited in there numbers of issue. Umalatova Medals are generally not taken too seriously by collectors in fact most find them not really worth collecting because of the low value and their copying of Soviet era awards is to say the least annoying. However in my opinion, a Commemerative award for veterans to honour a feat or to mark an important date in history should not really be classed as only being issued for capitolistic gain. I have no further information on this award at the moment as soon as i find more i'll post here. Eddie

Unofficial Russian Federation Medals
Eric,
I agree with Eddie that there's not a 'limited production' of Umalatovas. As far as collecting them, that's a matter of personal interests. No matter what the opinions are, Umalatovas are awarded by the Opposition communist Party just like The Son's of the American Revolution, VFW and other organizations here in the USA award medals. Bottom line...The Opposition Communist Party is an actual entity. Best, Doc Last edited by Riley1965; 06-22-2006 at 02:28 PM. |

Thats what makes our chosen Hobby so varied and interesting. Also not least Umalatovas are a good starter option because of the lower price compared to Soviet and many other bloc awards. Regards Eddie

It obviously unofficial, but is it from the Umalatova gang or not, I don't know. I believe they were prohibited to issue medals on 5-sided suspensions.

Alexei,
This is very interesting. Is there a "source" about it ? And does this mean they are allowed to issue medals on other (square) suspensions, such as the Stalin Birthday medal... Cheers. Ch. |
