The suspension ring on the "Odessa" - even if it is a really bad repair job - doesn't make the medal real. And the ring on the "Sevastopol" is just sad [quotation marks added for emphasis on the alleged names of these two medals;)].

However, the other two seem fine. Plus, you managed to get two of the three variations of Lenin's 100th medals (labor and military) - the third (given to foreign socialists-communists) is just about impossible to find.:)

Given the prices for some of the rarer items these days, I'm not surprised at all at that amount. In fact, with only around 5000 of these out there (real ones), I would have expected the price to be even higher. At the same time, they would be incredibly easy and inexpensive to fake. The only trick would be getting the clasp right (it's a slightly larger version of the type on the 50th anniversary of KPSS membership badges).

I laugh for that, for one medal which is practicly impossible to find (5000 medals in all over the world) is surrealistic price 1700-1800$ for one of this kind of medal, and too expensive for a fake.

But you see, that is the trick. Someone selling a fake is hoping the buyer knows that they are very rare, but they are not experienced enough to know what that means in terms of a real price. The idea is to lure an inexperienced buyer with the "too good to be true" price. Even if the seller gets half of that, he or she has made quite a profit.:mad: It's laughable to us, but think back to when you were just starting and maybe somebody took advantage of you with a fake.:thumbsdown

A little knowledge is far more dangerous for a collector (and advantageous for a seller of fakes) than a great deal of knowledge and the paranoia that comes with it.;)
