Medal "For Good Border Protection".

Greetings to all,

A recent addition to my collection. Can't afford the Soviet stuff any more so I am branching out to other Soviet Block.

Dat,

I thought I heard that Afghan stuff is not exactly inexpensive either these days, or am I mistaken?

Afghanistan medal prices.

Bon Soir Marc...those are the few words that I still remember from HS french class.

I just started collecting these medals. I have not seem much of these medals at all on ebay. Currently I am in Afghanistan and I personally haven't seen much medals for sale at the local bazaar. The medals I posted are the few that I have seen in the past 2 months. I do not have much knowledge on prices of these medals.

Strangely enough, two vendors were selling dozens of the Maternal Glory medals and even have two Mother Heroine; minus the gold stars, for sale. They also had some Red Bannor of Labors. Both vendors wanted really "high" prices for the Russian medals, but not so for the Afghan medals.

On a different subject, I will post photos of a T-34 shortly. Found it in a "storage area" along with hundreds of other tanks, rocket launchers, BMP's, howitzers, and AA guns.

Medal for Protecting the Borders

Established in 1980. Made of Brass
Like the other Afghanistan awards of the communist period this medal was manufactured in the Soviet Union.
Awarded by the government of Afghanistan mostly to Afghan border guard troops but also to some Soviet soldiers.

Re: Medal for Protection of Borders

Significantly, Dat shows his on the correct ribbon. It is frequently seen remounted on the ubiquitous tricolor Afghan multi-use ribbon.

Here is an obverse/reverse image.

Re: Medal "For Good Border Protection"

Here is a rather chewed up example fresh out of Afghanistan. The damage isn't too surprising given the history of the area.
