Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
Hi,
medal is OK, but the suspension is most likely new. At least from this pictures is hard to see is it :thumbsup or :thumbsdown. Screwback plate does not look good either... BR, Lauri |

Good eye, Lauri! The former owner confirms that the screwback plate is a repro. He says that is the only non-original detail of the medal. I hope I can trust him...
Thank you sergio |

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
Guys, you really think those deep marks are dings and not casting flaws? And what about the digits? The only one I've found that looks similar and that's in the correct range is a '2'.
Not that I'm an authentications expert, I'm just wondering....

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
Hi All,
I've had this medal for a while. I'm fairly convinced it is authentic. Anyone disagree? Thanks, :thumbsup -Alex Front: |

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
My biggest worry is about the suspension. Does it look original? Note, this piece came with a replacement screw disc (like what you would see on an ORS).
Another question: at the same place I bought this medal I found a Bravery Medal in the #8xx,xxx range on a similar suspension, also with a replaced screw disc. It looked almost exactly the same as this piece in terms of condition. I am fairly certain that the medal itself is original. However, I am again not sure about the suspension. Even if original, why would the early type of suspension be attached to a medal issued after the changeover to 5-sided suspensions? Last edited by RedMaestro2; 08-17-2009 at 12:11 AM. |

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
Alex, the medal itself looks fine. The connecting ring is cut hence the suspension question. The suspebsion looks like a replacement. Note there is no wear on the suspension hole where the ring goes.
As far as a BM in the 800k range with a rectangle suspension goes, this is of course not authentic. Likely changed by the seller to gain a few more dollars or by the vet because he liked the rectangle suspension more. Any BM number after 426k should be on a 5 sided suspension. Brendan

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service
Hi Guys, this is a new purchase. Bought from a friend, so no problems should it need to be returned. I would just like you guys to cast a beady eye over it as my experience with the early type suspension is very limited.
I have compared it with those shown here and the Mondvor site. The serial number is correct for the suspension and the screwback plate looks correct to me. As always, comments are most welcome. Cheers, Ade.
