For Personal Courage.

I'd like to purchase an original Order of Personal Courage. It's been a favourite of mine for some time now. I know they are quite rare, and I beleive there some 511 issued. I'm sure someone knows the exact number.

I was wondering what sort of price other people had paid for one, so I'd have some idea what I would need to pay. I'm interested in the soviet issue one, not the post-soviet one. Award book and/or photos and any supporting documentation would be a great bonus.

I appreciate this is a non-commercial forum, so if anyone knows of one for sale, please email or PM me. I've been unable to find a soviet one for sale to date. Thanks.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Hi Shane,

Price for this order varies greatly depending on whether or not it was actually issued: just like many other Soviet awards, a quantity of this order was taken and released in the market without actually being awarded to anyone. These are much cheaper. The ones that were actually issued go for closer to $1,000 (from what I was offered), while the unissued ones for less than half that.

According to the guys from the Mondvor site, there were 8,000 Personal Courage manufactured on Leningrad Mint and only 629 were actually awarded.

If this is the case - then non-awarded order should be a lot cheaper.

Can anyone confirm these numbers?

New World,

My set of books "ORDERS AND MEDALS OF THE USSR 1918-1991" by Sergey S. Shishov and Mikhail Muzalevsky arrived from Moscow yesterday and I looked this one up, as a matter of interest.

The numbers you quoted were correct, there are around 7500 unawarded ones floating around somewhere. Interestingly enough, around 100 of the issued awards went to foreigners.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Shane,

You are absolutely right!

Mondvor guys say that out 629 orders 100 were indeed awarded to foreigners.

I am sure that most out of those 7,500 found their way to the market.

Issued sequentially?

Look up the McDaniel book -- he has a picture of obviously heavily worn order number 001557, which leads me to conclude that they were NOT issued sequentialy. Any thoughts?

I just love to jump into this debate;). First, this Order is very, very rare and most people have not seen more then a few originals. I know I am not positive enough with this Order to form an opinion on originality. No matter who you buy an Order of Personal Courage from, you had better get a Certificate of Authenticity from Paul McDaniel first. The prices these are being offered for are low compared to what I have been offered over the past six months (and they all turned out to be fake).

My point is that no matter who you buy from get that authentication.

Just my opinion,
Ed

Here is my Order for personal courage. Bought it in Kutaisi in Georgia from the Doctor to whom it was awarded. Paid around 200 in 1993. He was awarded this for treating earth quake victims, on site before they could be pulled out of the rubble. He was sad to see it go, but they needed the money. In 1993 things were pretty bad in Georgia I have the order book, but cant seem to get a scan down to 50kb. Any suggestions
