Here is the 7th Type of the National Flag Order 2nd Class which has been lightened like many of the more contemporary awards.

Great minds run in the same gutter. I was just about to ask that very question. They must mean something, maybe somethging important, maybe not. It will probably require access to the archives to answer this, and that may some time in coming.

That is of course if the records exist at all. When the United Nations forces under MacArthur took control of the entirety of Korea before the Chinese offensive it is quite likely that the records were all destroyed or at very best severely damaged. If not at this period they may have been destroyed when Pyongyang was recaptured and then on top of the war there is of course a list of natural disasters as long as your arm which may very likely have had a negative impact on whatever archive survived. This is also on top of the speculation that the DPRK provided and provide citations in a Soviet fashion when awarding Orders and Medals and also under the speculation that the Koreans award Order #20 with Order Booklet #20. Many of the award booklets I have seen have stated the position of the person at the time of awarding rather than an actual "reason". I'm not sure that all awards get "write ups" or more of a "it is my will that so and so is awarded so and so". Time will tell but I don't think we should hold our breaths. It really would be fantastic to know just who and why these awards in my collection were awarded, especially the earlier and higher end ones. So many questions and speculation, not so many answers!

Here is a peculiar picture that has come up for sale for a ridiculous price (although it wouldn't be if the price included the award). Taken by the Bulgarian Medical Force in Korea. A junior officer wearing an National Flag Order which would seem to be an early 2nd Class.

I have absolutely no idea what the photographer was going for but this is whatever it was.

This is awarded to 뿌리만첸꼬 그.느, 'Purimanchenko G.N'(Or Pulimanchenko).
He is Soviet colonel, he is Weapon skill adviser of Korean people's army.

Order number is 2482, awarded in 28.2.1952, booklet issued on March.1.
I guess this is from warren sessler.

Anyone have any information about this colonel?

That'll be "Pol" (Colonel) Manchenko G. N., Unfortunately no additional information can be found on this recipient. No G.N. on Podvignaroda and too common a name for google.
