Seeing the enemy crossing the Don River near Gremyache on July 5, 1942, he carried out his battalion commander’s orders and moved his battery to an open position. Firing on direct lay he destroyed 2 enemy crossings, 30 trucks, and 3 tanks. The enemy did not seize the eastern bank of the Don River. On July 6, 1942 he destroyed an enemy mortar battery. Comrade Yakovlev showed examples of fortitude, bravery and heroism. The regimental command is of the opinion that Andrei Dmitriyevich Yakovlev deserves this nomination for the Order of the Red Banner.

Thanks, Tom, but I think the chances of that happening are slim and none, regardless, I extracted the documents and had them translated to give us a clearer picture of the depth and range of his valor.

Battery commander -> Battalion commander -> Regimental commander in around 18 months.

I guess it shows the casualty rates in a regiment such as this.
