That's an interesting one,
I think by the shape if it is a letter it's an "O" Eddie.

Interestingly enough, you can see a similar mark at the same location on the Order of the Badge of Honor, T2V4, SN 11419, that is visible on Art's main site :
http://www.soviet-awards.com/order_p...ail/hon24d.jpg Look at the mark ! I believe in fact it is neither an "O" or an "0", but a circular mark, a kind of point, looking a little bit like a rivet. Any explanation about these marks ? Ch. Last edited by Christophe; 06-13-2004 at 04:07 AM. |

Weird!
Right up close the middle "Mark" has one flat edge ,like a D. Eddie.

 What do you mean ? I'm not sure to have fully understood... Having the Order in hands, I can just tell you that the mark is a nearly perfect circle. So... Ch. |

Sorry, it must be the enlarged pic. It looks like the middle (Raised?) mark or whatever it is has a flat edge on the left side. The scan must have decived me :( Eddie.

Sorry for the quality of the scan ;) ; I did my best, and it is not so easy with these screwback orders... But the mystery remains about this kind of mark we have now seen on two similar orders with quite close SN... Ch. |

Guys,
That's definitely a digit "0", not a letter "O" or "D". I doubt the engraver would put initials so close to the serial number. William |

I'm still perplex...
I'll try to post a magnified pic in the coming days. Maybe Art, who has got in hands a similar order with the same style of mark, could help ? Ch. |

Guys,
I've seen a bunch of pieces with this round mark, and it's always a perfect circle, always stamped where a master's mark would be. Is it a "0" or an "O", I have no idea, but I am guessing that a "0" would be elongated, so it's probably an "O". All we can do now is collect the information, hoping to learn more some day. Alexei |
