That was the standard pin of the Soviet Union National Olympic Committee. They gave a bunch of these to each member of the Soviet olympic team. This model (minor variations exist) was used from the 1960's "do raspoda sovietskovo sojuza".

To revive this thread, here are scans of the unissued document given to every member of the Soviet Olympic Team. It has a high quality padded leather cover.
Olympic team members also received the corresponding badge shown in posts #5 and #6.

An interesting flag badge; heavy brass construction, safety pin-type fastener. Workmanship is, in my opinion, on par with medals/orders, but no makers' mark present. Incredible detail- check out the star in the pole topper. Fine metallic red enamel with heavy lacquer over. This was not meant as a "throw-away" by any means. Does anyone have any ideas on this badge?

I believe the design of the "pole topper" indicates a military unit banner.

I acquired this badge through an Australian interest and, due to the construction of the piece, was wondering if it might be a pin worn by, say, members of the foreign service. Appears to have been made, at a guess, in the 50's or very early 60's- as I said, heavy brass (flatback). Back when the USSR had money.

Hard to say on time period - I'm guessing 60's. I've never seen anything like it and with the pin I'd lean on foreign (non-Soviet) manufacture. Interesting piece.
