Maybe they gave the wrong report to their headquarters (reported the swedish ship being something else, like enemy ship) or something like that..!?!?

During the WW II that kind of action done by the soviets happened many times at the Finland- Soviet frontlines so why not at the sea.

Many commanders were under the very heavy pressure by their headquarters to get some results so sometimes they gave reports which were not true or were very "colourfull".

Here is a picture of Naval Infantry major Victory Leonev. I have a couple of questions about his uniform.

1. were the anchors embrodered or were they metallic?

2. The gold wire lines around the collar. Was it the case that there was one line for junior officers and two for senior officers?

The picture came form the book Blood on the Shores which is about the first Naval infantry unit belonging to the Baltic Fleet. Not a bad read but it is subject to the usual commie propaganda of the era.

The Naval officers parade tunic is standard, but i am sure a well made example. The anchors could be either embroidered or metal, though more likely to be embroidered. The lines on the collar were standard until the rank of admiral.

Sorry Doug, does that mean that junior ranks would have had two lines of embroidery around the collar and not one. I have an example with one line...do you know where this comes from?

But...Why Gagarin and Tereshkova used all those majestic awards on their green service uniforms? Aren´t they supposed to use them with splendor on their blue parade uniforms?
And also, is it true that Tereshkova was named HSL of Mongolia?

I noticed this as well and thought it rather odd. I was under the impression the The Odrder of Lenin was given for every HSU awarded. Oh Well, another illusion shattered! :D

At that time (early to late 1960, at least until the introduction of the M1969 parade uniforms) the Soviet Army uniform consisted of blue breeches or trousers with a dark, olive-green, open-collar tunic. The only difference between the service and parade uniforms was that the parade uniform sported the full medals and orders, a gold parade belt, and cap with cockade & wreath and a gold capcord, whereas the service uniform was worn with ribbons, and a cap with small cockade & black chinstrap. The blue uniforms for Air Force officers came later.
