Shane,

I guess I was thinking as a dealer. When those ##4, 5, and 6 had just appeared on the market I had eventually decided not to sell them. And since in most cases I can't even see the difference between ## 2 and 3 I don't sell them either. I only occasionally sell #1. Since I am a medals dealer I can afford it and leave the uniforms to the specialists :)

Doug,

I can see that he is wearing a dagger. Was it a special type? Couldn't find anything in Kulinsky.

yes, there was a special diplo dagger. it is in one of the issues of zueghaus; i'll try to scan it soon. very ornate. saw one for sale just once, maybe 3 years back.

there was also a very rare dagger for rail service in the 1940's..

Doug,

I'd really appreciate a picture. Couldn't find either of them in any of my books.

I was digging through my old pics and thought this one was a good representation of this fellow's uniform. Other than a Marshal of the USSR, I still think that this is the best looking uniform! Interestingly, even though this fellow was a Veteran of the Patriotic War, he wasn't wearing all of his jubilee medals... just the ones that 'counted'. Oh yeah- and his tie was of civilian manufacture as well (black with ugly grey and red striping!) He was a nice guy though!

Dave,

Is this the guy that you have mugged? :)

As for the medals, many "real" veterans considered those jubilee medals to be just pins not worthy of wearing.

The rank (full ambassador) is VERY different from the rank in the first post of the thread:

The tunic that is on Ebay at this time is actually one from my diplomatic collection. Since I have several complete uniforms now in my collection, I decided to part with one of the single tunics.

I agree that there are certainly some stylistic variations between the design of the collar tab on the tunic at the beginning of the thread and and the one on my tunic, although the basic patterns are the same. In light of the fact that these are hand-embroidered pieces, I would certainly expect to see some variation, particularly if the tunics represented different time periods of manufacture. Unfortunately, that is something about which we don't have information.

I have attached the scan from the beginning of the thread for ease of comparison.

The reason that we "unfortunately" didn't have information on dates of the respective tunics is because when I saw Tal's post I was at work and I decided to post a reply at that time, rather than waiting until I got home to examine various uniforms in my collection.

Having now done that, I can state that the Ambassador uniforms that have the collar tab embroidery as shown at the beginning of the thread bear buttons dated in the 1970's or 1980's, based on uniforms in my collection.

Other, earlier uniforms bear the collar tab embroidery that is of the style that is on the tunic that I have offered on Ebay. The buttons are undated. However, one of the uniforms that I have with that style collar tab also came with the visor cap, the interior of which is dated 1962.

Unknown uniform, 1945 photo

What is the guy next to Stalin (right side) wearing? The photo is taken 1945 but the uniform looks like M1949?

I wonder if it could be a Soviet NKID uniform (People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs)? When you look for a cap badge there is not much. Maybe a small squiggle that could be the NKID laurel leaves. It is not the usual black or white but could be a summer khaki version??
