Cemetaries And Military Memorials.
The memorial board reads: “In this building a famed designer Georgij Semjonovich Shpagin worked - creator of PPSh, Hero of the Socialist Labor, Laureate of the State Prize and a Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR”.

This is just around the corner from where I live 10 minutes walk away. I first saw it in 96 when I went to a remembrance parade in this graveyard which contained brit war graves from the first War of Independence There was in attendance a crew of a brit minesweeper. Also at the parade were the women who maintained the graves during Soviet occupation. She was awarded an MBE for this probably the only Estonian to hold this award. Regards Chris..by the way the mig tail fins are awesome close up...it was the custom for the pilots killed in a crash.... |

Sub Grave
Tal
This is a Mass Grave of a Russian Sub crew killed in 56 off the coast of Paldiski in Estonia. From the site you can overlook the spot where the accident occurred. They died in 56..the class of 36. They are buried in order of precedence. Chris |

All crew lost
Mandi Hi
This incident happened in 56. The sub surfaced and collided with a ship above it. My GF comes from this town. They should not keep surgical alcohol on board subs! Chris |

It would be sort of cool, if you had a HSU or HSL to go to the home city of the awardee and find the plaque. I don't suppose anyone has actually done this?
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

2Soviet Graves - Baltic Coast
I enjoyed Doug Dabik's Stalingrad posts, and other museum threads.
I will try to add some pics of artifacts along the Baltic coast... interesting to pass the following 'neglected" grave site of Soviet soldiers...it was located off in the woods, on a drive from Sopot to Gdansk (Danzig) in northern Poland. These soldier's died during the liberation phase..early 1945. My companion pointed out the fact that, since the end of communism, these graves don't get the attention (preservation) they once did...

Re: GPW monument in Georgia demolished...?
Not having read the article yet, my first reaction is a gut one, which says the Georgians want nothing to do with Russia and even worthy monuments like this one have Soviet overtones (which to many is synonymous with Moscow, i.e. Russia). Seems silly and a little childish to me, but I'm not Georgian...
Phillip Now that I've read the article - I back what I said earlier and agree with what the Russian Foreign Ministry said about the demolition. Relocation was viable for Tallin (though it aggravated the Russians then, too) but destroying it for a spurious project that has already gotten an inglorious start - and I truly doubt will ever be completed - is absurdly childish.
