Here is another group from my collection of new Russian Awards. It is a new Medal "For Valour" (serial #19557) with award document and a presentation watch for the MVD. The watch is a a regular watch that you see all over but it has an inscription on the inside around the face which says, "To Smirnov, V. A., For carrying out special missions in the Chechnian Republic."
The Valour Medal is smaller then the Soviet versions of the medal and has a one piece loop made as part of the medal. wish I had more information about this group. Here is the award book. Ed Last edited by CtahhR; 02-03-2012 at 09:35 PM. |

Ed,
Since I am a resident skeptic here... I am not sure this watch is original. It is too cheap to be a presentation watch, and is made mainly for tourists and export. Those watches keep terrible time, and Russians hate them. Of course we'll never know for sure. Alexei |

Alexei,
I agree that the watch is cheap. I just do not know if its real or not but until I can get into the archives with the Chechnya records, I will never know. But on the other hand, cheap presentation awards are not "uncommon" in todays Russian Army or in any army for that matter. Its kind of a private award among fellow soldiers. I do not mean to try to create a fantasy story behind the group or "false hope," I just do not think that it is outside the realm of possibility at this time. Thanks for your input, Ed |

Ed,
If he is MVD indeed we'll probably never know for sure. Alexei |

Medal for Bravery
This is the official Medal for Bravery of Russian Federation.
The look and quality are there but the feel is not right.

Yes, that a mint mark below the serial number.
The medal was instituted on March 2, 1994 and is made of German Silver. Conferred to officers and soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces for acts of bravery and valor in the battlefield.

BM from Russian Federation...
Here's another one, something of a surprise find for me. It's nicely made, and at 34mm it's smaller than the version from Soviet days.
