This is one of the most iconic of all the images of early occupied Berlin. Katja Spivak directing traffic.

This 25 year old was more than just a pin-up and was also awarded with an Order, Medal and Badge.

The Badge is plain to see but there is not enough detail - some may think it is "Excellent Signaller" given what she has in her hands.

Ekaterina Akimovna Spivok had already been awarded (although not received) a Red Star for her service as a Medic in 621st Separate Medical Battalion, 180th Rifle Division.

Her May 1945 Medal "For Combat Merits" citation shows us that the badge is in fact the "Excellent Sanitary Service".

She may have aged and died (received the OPWII'85) but that image remains as a moment captured forever.

Either "Chernigov" (Russian) or "Chernihiv" (Ukrainian). That letter isthe same, but sounds differently, which may be confusing.
