Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Guys no ideas concerning this Leningrad?

I'm going to post 2 more pictures, I hope these help.I cannot weight it right now. It measures 2 mm (width) and 3.2 cm (diameter) and it's slightly bulged in the center of the medallion

Notice how the ring is soldered to the medallion. It's symmetric and the material seems just too recient. I also think the suspension is definitely false and I could say there's a lack of detail in the leaves.

I could change it for a Valiant Labour during the Patriotic War, Liberation of Warsaw or a Medal for Combat Service (the seller is one of the few who sells soviet medals here in Caracas and she sadly doesn't know anything about them and sell them for the same price)...

So what do you guys recommend? If the medallion is OK I could change the suspension... Or I could change if from of the above (which I believe are a bit less rare). Also there's a wonderful Order of the Red Star SN 2705190 without it's document for the wonderful price of US$ 400  which I obviously won't pay...

Anyways, what do think guys?

Don't get wrapped up about the suspension. It's not original, but it certainly isn't false either. Even if this once came with a two-piece suspension, those often rust and break. It can sometimes be asking a lot for that to survive the six plus decades.

I'm not convinced your medal is fake, but I've only got four or five Budapests around the house.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

I do not like the medal. The soldered ring looks bad and the colour of the gold looks strange. Maybe this is an photo effect.

The leaves and the branches lack detail.

I added an genuine piece to compare.

But lets wait for other oppinions about the medal.

best regards
Andreas

Thank you for your help guys. I guess I'll still wait for one more opinion before changing it.

Guys,

If we are discussing the medal pictures in posts 89 & 90, I can't really see any detail, but just the ring betrays it as a fake.

Koenigsberg?

Any reason to doubt this?
My only question is the extreme shinyness of it; looks almost new.
T2 I think.

Interesting ring. It has the usual file marks for a type 2 but it is not the classical 'tounge' ring. Maybe filed down more than usual. Might have an issue with the berry details on the back but I will have to wait to tonight till I get on my computer to see better.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

On rare occasion, I see an old V2 in the campaign series that looks this good and clean (Berlin, Kafkaz, and Koenigsburg come to mind). It's not often, and this one looks a bit rough on the edges to go with its shiny "newness." Unless the price was low (like $12-$15 or less), I don't think I'd chance it with these photos. It's just too easy to get one you know is good to waste your time.

I think it might actually be good - but why chance it?
