I. Brief description of personal feat


Senior Sergeant Ovcharenko I.F. in the battles from 17th till 20th July 1944 for the villages Ust'e 2nd, Siniza and Kovalevschina provided unceasing fire to the commander of the tank. For the three days of fighting, Senior Sergeant Ovcharenko I.F. destroyed: three field guns, machine gun and hand machine gun, killed more than 20 enemy soldiers and officers. When due to enemy's fire the tank caught up in flames and the crew did not have the possibility to get out from the burning tank because of the machine gun fire of the enemy, he remained in the tank, covering with the canon and machine gun fire the crew's escape from the burning tank. After exiting the tank, together with the crew he got in a fight with the counterattacking enemy, killing up to 10 fascists.
For the courage and bravery manifested in the battle he deserves governmental awards, order of the "Glory 3rd Class".
