Order "Red Banner".
The award was instituted on December, 13th, 1950 and was the first Bulgarian military award after September, 9th, 1944.
Awarded to military men for selflessness, bravery and heroism in wartime. The award was also awarded to Corps and divisions of the Bulgarian army, in wartime - " for special distinction in the struggle against the enemies ", and in peace time - " for special merit in strengthening the defensive power and safety of the PRB ". Also awarded to the military men of the foreign states belonging to the Warsaw pact in armed actions against the common enemy. The first award was on March, 10th, 1951 to Senior lieutenant Naiden Ivanov. The designer and engraver was Onik Odabashjan, the award was made in the Bulgarian State mint. The award has an oval form and measures 43х34 mm. On the left and right are laurel branches connected below by a tape of white enamel with the inscription "NRB". At the top the branches are connected by a five-pointed star. Between the laurel branches is a flying banner with red enamel and the inscription " FOR SOCIALISTS OFTHE NATIVE LAND ". The background below the banner is dark blue and a figure of a charging soldier with a rifle is pictured. Eddie. ( CO VicM...)

Eric I haven't found any figures as yet of just how many of the various Orders were awarded. As soon as something turns up I'll post it. ;)
Here is the Order of Red Flag", 2nd emission. This one has no number on the reverse. ( CO sho.Bul..... )

I just received a Red Banner # 7436. Very heavy compared to Soviet Orders.

Re: Order "Red Banner".
Here is the second "Red Banner" #10849. I currently have this Order framed as part of a group which includes a second unnumbered "Red Banner". The group leads me to believe that the person who was awarded them was probably a Colonel.
