Perhaps a translating difference, but I always heard these called "motor transport" insignia.

Really?
i always heard of these as being railway and that the motor shooting/transport troops had the same insignia as regular army (the laurel wreaths in a horseshoe)
well, thanks for teaching me something new guys!

Yes, the wheels show its motor transport; rail troops had the corssed engineering insignia, etc.

I assume motor transport were the truck-driving folk, etc. I too have heard the star-in-laurel-wreath referred to as "motor-shootng troops" and the like. I guess "mechanized infantry" might be a better translation, but perhaps misleading, because I think all infantry (whether motorized or not) wore the same insigna.

insignia
Don't confuse 'Motor-Transport Troops' (the guys driving trucks) with 'Motor-Rifle Troops ( the guys we would call infantry). DD

To eliminate any confusion: motor transport (guys driving trucks) on the right, infantry (guys with guns) on the left.
