Fake "Excellent" Badges. - Page 11

Hi,

what i see is a good genuine badge, but in some kind of reason a later 50's type screw is soldered to the old war time screw. Lot's of recipients of badges and orers shortened screw's for more comfortable wear. And because badge with shortened screw and probably without correct screwback plate is not so easy to sell, they soldered to the badge later type screw with screwback plate.

Otherwise original badge.

What did I do to deserve that???????
And when do you think I'll be going back there, any time soon? :confused:

Eric, if it's the militaria store in Naples, most of his 3rd Reich award documents are bad too, so if he's an "expert", steer clear. You shouldn't tolerate that treatment.

Yep, that's "him" Paul.
I should add that the dozen other times I've been there he's been very polite, nice and helpful.

I went through this whole thread and checked almost every image and found no examples of "the small triangle" to which I refer above.
Attached is an image of said triangle with a pink, inverted 'v' above it. I might add that all three images are of the same badge.

Also I took a sideways shot of the badge to give an idea of it's thickness.
You might notice the spool of thread I use as a stand for all my screwback images. :o

Just wanted to give this a bump to see if there were any opinions.
I did see one at Igor's place that's very similar so I feel fairly good.

The badge is genuine, don't worry about it. The thread was indeed messed up :(

As for this black gunk, I am not quite sure what it is, but it's quite common on those badges. Have a look at some Drivers from my stock...

And that "gunk" may be a way to help authenticate some of the older badges, at least for the time being?
BTW, that stuff is dry, and it flakes off under one's fingernail when one tries to remove it. A stiff nylon brush removed most of it (and the patina as well).

The "gunk" sounds like it might be epoxy resin, a simple, strong, no-heat repair method. I don't think it authenticates anything, but it doesn't disqualify anything, either.

I don't think so, looks like it was applied during the manufacturing process or is a result of it.

Actually we can ask Eric to post a picture of the back of his badge with this gunk removed.
