Personal File, General-Major L.I. Gredinarenko
I bought a few years ago, a partial set of original documents (21) belonging to General-Major Leonid Ivanovitch Gredinarenko, from an Ukrainian guy here in Switzerland. He told me that this was only paper, and he wanted to sell it at any cost. I decided to take it, and forgot about it since then, because at that time, I couldn’t read Russian at all… :D
For a week, I “found” again this set, and wanted to look at it more closely. His biography is covered on the 3 first pages, and after, the other documents are about his military career (of course…). He earned an Order of Kutuzov 2nd class, an Order of Lenin, 3 Orders of the Red Banner, an order of the Patriotic war 1st class, medals, and foreign awards. I found on Internet, that in 1942, he was Chief of staff 49th Rifle Division, and in 1945, General Officer commanding 70th Guard Rifle Division.
Here are scans from some documents (not the entire group…) The scans are not enough detailed, but it was only to show the type of documents. There are very interesting signatures on the documents. According to the same source of information, there are : General-Major Oleinik, Fedor I. : Political Commissar 38th Army General-Colonel Moskalenko, Kirill S. : later Marshal of S.U. General Officer commanding 38th Army General-Lieutenant Perekrestov, Grigorii N. : … General Beloborodov Afanasii P. : … And here are close-ups of the signatures I have 3 questions : What’s the name of such set? Personal file? Service record? Until now, it has been the only time I saw such a group, is it rare? What would be the “rarity” of this? And lastly, if someone (who knows…) has any order awarded to this General, I would be happy to share with him these documents, but I don’t want to sell them. |

Andreas,
Yes, the first 3 pages are a biography signed by another Captain... because at that time (1938), Gredinarenko was only Captain. Regards Last edited by Laurent; 10-25-2005 at 03:26 AM. |

Does the paperwork say what the S/N is for the Kutuzov 2?
Rusty.

It would have been too easy if I had a s/n... as far as I can read, I have his commendation signed on August 5th 1944 by Moskalenko and Oleinik.
In a few words, this commendation is for courage and bravery shown during an operation between July 14th and August 1st 1944 and for his help to the Commander. On the same paper (Награднои Лист), we can read that he had already earned the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class, the 20Years RKKA medal, and the medal for the Defense of Stalingrad. Yesterday I received my first research for another award... and I was very surprised to see the same type of paper for the award commendation! but for Gredinarenko, I have the original one ; is it common? |

In the old days one could have bought the original file. I've seen a few full files for sale a few times.
Now days you can only get the xeroxed copies of what you request. Rusty.

Personal File.
I've seen these recently via the web and I wonder what exactly they are?
My guess is a soldiers personel file from his local district post? It seems pretty official, not to mention complete. The seller claims 29 pages. I can post more images if anyone is interested. But I wonder, this seems to be pretty 'official'; why's it for sale to decadent Capitolists and not in a military archive of some sort? Additionally, is this sort of file what researches use to provide their services?

Re: Private File?
Eric,
Nothing new here, these have been around for many years. They all come from Ukraine; apparently, they did not care safegarding these after 1991. Fortunately, the central archive in Podolsk has a duplicate of all of these. Marc |
