Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 1st Class

Iltt,

Can you please post a large picture of the front and the back of the gold piece. From the ones you posted, there seems to be some bubbling which could possibly indicate casting.

Hi, Marc
These are the larger picture. This OPW weighs 28.44g without screw plate, lighter than the average. What do you think about it?

Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 1st Class

Iltt,

I am not sure here. The gold star is markedly lighter that it should be (~14.3 g), and there are many bubble-like pimples both on the front and back of it.
Can you do as large a large scan of the mintmark only as possible?

Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 1st Class

Iltt,

Thank you for the new image, although of limited use.

I tend to believe that the gold star is actually a good quality cast copy. I am afraid that a definite diagnosis can be made only by holding the piece in hand.

Marc,
Thank you for your help!:thumbsup
This OPW 1st measures 45mm tall, 43mm wide, smaller than average. I have no idea. I'm afraid I must turn to golden identification for help:(

Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 1st Class

Iltt,

I am afraid that with the last bit of information you provided, you just confirmed my doubts: a cast piece.

When a cast is made, upon cooling the metal shrinks slightly, resulting in copies that are smaller than the original.

Ruiz,

It looks good to me from what can be seen, although larger picture wouldn't hurt ;)
