Ministry Of Internal Affairs Pension Booklet.

Here is a rather early M.V.D. Pension Booklet from the early days of the newly rebranded M.V.D. (1954). The service personnel entitled to the pension is Ivlian Grigor'evich Bzhalava (Born in 1892) which states his length of service on 22nd April 1954 to be 38!! years. This would mean service from 1916, unless the pension booklet was going by the later date given (31st March 1956) which would mean service from March 1918 (within 6 months of "Cheka".). This person could have been an early Chekist or possibly an imperial policeman who just served right through the Revolutions, Purges and Wars. Service may be counted multi-service so he may have been an Imperial Soldier, then Red Soldier and then a Policeman. Unfortunately the Russian site has no information on this person so all we can do for now is speculate.

A second strange thing encountered here is the booklet is issued in Lviv Oblast (Ukraine) but all later stamps are from Tbilisi (GSSR). Did Bzhalava retire to Georgia or was he on assignment to the Ukraine when it was time to retire?

More questions than answers popping up here.

Well, he was somebody with a great deal of experience and probably influence. The amount of his pension is drastically larger than most I've seen for the "average Ivan" where it was a 50 or 150 instead of 2160.

Re: Early M.V.D. Pension Booklet.

Here are a few more pages.... not much more given away.

Bzhalava is a Georgian name so probably born, raised and worked primarily in the GSSR.

If this highly paid long termer was in the Ukraine during the final days of Georgian (Stalin/Berija) dominence of the State Security organisations it may be very possible that it had something to do with the final clean-up of the OUN (Organisation Of Ukrainian Nationals)

Re: Early M.V.D. Pension Booklet.

Here is another early MVD Pension booklet of a different style. This booklet to Major Avksentij Nikolaevich Miminoshvili is dated 21st March 1953 (16 days into the MVD) and states he retired with 28 years service under his belt (serving from 1925 it would seem).
Hand signed by the deputy Minister Of Internal Affairs Nikolaj Pavlovich Stahanov.
