Table Medal "70 Years Of Militia".

a friend of mine asked me to put this badge on the forum.
we'd sort of figure out that it's a 70years celebrationbadge, but we're not sure.
could some of you give more info about what it is, who gets it, and how you get it.
here're some photo's.

Hi,

Its a table medal for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the militia, the soviet civilian police force.

As to who would get it I have no idea.

Is there any evidence that this table medal was an award for anything, rather than just a commemorative piece?

I doubt that it is anything other than a celebration piece. If it was the appropriate text would probably be on the medal itself e.g. in recognition of selfless service, etc.

Simon is right about it being for the anniversary as a whole rather than a specific award. However, looking at the box it is in - if it is original to the table medal - then I would say this was a limited run given to higher-ranking officials in the MVD's USSR level militia.

Regardless of for whom it was made, it is one of the more unusual table medals of the militia/MVD/KGB I have seen (IMO) and certainly a keeper. (If your friend doesn't want it, PM or email me;)). There was a similar version made from gold-colored aluminum that I have around here somewhere and not nearly so nice.
