Because I see and handle these, and a lot of similar declensions, every weekend at the local collector's club.
It seems that someone came up with the idea that when you cross a widely available, next to unsellable badge, with another one, also widely available and also next to unsellable, you end up with a new variety of Komsomol badge that sells. Sad, but true!

Thanks. The reason I was so sure is that I have one of those "Znanie" badges, that was given to me years ago. Of course, I haven't seen it in about 25 years, so I may be mistaken.

It's a prize badge from both Komsomol and the Committee of Youth Organizations.
