"Operation Albion" mostly OT

subtitled "The German Conquest Of The Baltic Islands"

It's about the successful German amphibious invasion of the island of Osel (and Moon and Dago) in the northern Gulf of Riga in 1917.

Not too much to do with us here other than the the Kerensky gov't and the fact that what was previously Imperial Russian units got the revolutionary fever and, basically, dropped and ran from the German invasion. Also, the Russian dreadnaught 'Slava' (Glory) was sunk in this operation.

The book's a bit 'dry' only because it's *extremely* well researched; it gets down into battalions movements and commanders and such. Even so I read it 3 or 4 days. It does give an even account from both the Russian and German viewpoints; surprising a great deal of official paperwork has survived after two world wars.

For those who really appreciate historical non-fiction I'd say give it a shot.
