Medal "For Rescuing The Drowning".

Hi there!

Do anyone knows what is the rarity of this medal? I know that aprox. 21000 were awarded. Also, it will be interesting to know if somone have the document for the medal - all the medals I saw were from the 60's.

Tal,

McDaniel gives this award a rarity rating of 2. A less common piece which is readily available. There are alot of fakes out there of this medal. McDaniel notes that all pieces with soldere on rings are fakes. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the award book, but McDaniel shows one in his book.

A light blue cover..never seen one of those before. Cool.

I wonder if the serial numbering is any indication of number issued? probably not, maybe more of a record-keeping device.

Medal Drowning.

This Doc. for the Medal for Rescuing a Drowning Person, issued in March 1964 to Anatoliy Skripka, is for sale on the site of a well known dealer of soviet items.

As you can see, it has no stamp.

Are these docs issued without stamp quite common ?

Do you have some others in your collections ? If yes, can you post pics ?

Is there a complementary explanation to those we envisaged ?

:

There have been told many reasons in this forum why some of the paper documents were not stamped.

One more which I believe: sometimes the clerk who made the documents made a mistake or just didn´t done his job well. Maybe he had a concert in the evening or something like that and he was very hurry. So he just decied to stop working or tried to do it faster.

So all the documents with no stamp are not fakes.

Jussi-Pekka

I agree, far from fake... but a real curiosity !!

Here is a 2nd type booklet, apparently established in 1981.

Inside this booklet, there is no more mention of the date of 16 February 1957, as in the booklets posted here and there in the Forum.

No more number in this 1981 type, issued in 1990.

Can someone help me in translating the content of this document :
name of the recipient,
in which occasion he received the medal (what I think is maybe the content of the 2 lines above the date of issue) ?
Idem for the date and the Ministry who issued it.

Any additional comment ?

To give a (partial) answer to Art's point :

The booklet SNs I have seen (web or books) are the following :

* SN and date of issue :

* 9962 -- 3/1964
* 32 641 -- 7/1964
* 47 421 -- 8/1965.

This is for the period 1957 - 1981, as the 2nd type of booklet (1981) has no more SN.

It seems there is a certain logic, but as said Art, more than an indication of bumbers issued, probably more of a record-keeping device.
Let's keep in mind that only 24,000 medals have been awarded.

The remaining question is : has there been any other booklet type, let's say after the 60s, and before 1981 ?
Has anyone ideas ?

Ch.

A complement to my post of yesterday, brought by the Mondvor site :

* There are only 2 versions of the booklet : 1957 and 1981.

* There is no apparent logic in attributing the SN.
On the attached pic (from Mondvor site, thanks to it), you can see at document issued on 10th September, 1966, with the SN number... 000007 !!

Has it been awarded to James Bond for drowning life in "Thunderball" (1965) ? (quite happy with this one !!!).

Can someone help me in translating the content of this (short) document :
* Name of the recipient,
* In which occasion he received the medal (what should be the content of the 2 lines above the date of issue) ?
* Date and Ministry who issued it.

Any additional comment ?

In advance, many thanks.

Cheers.

Ch.

Hi,

My Russian is not so good, but the two handwritten lines say the same thing as the stamp - Dneprpetrovsk Oblast. This must be the authority that issued the medal. As for the name, his first name is Yuri, after that, my translating skills are not so good.
