Gentlemen,

This variation is described in the Muzhalevsky book as type 2 "Oxidized one (yellow). The medal pictured in the book looks quite worn.

Muzalevsky and Shishkov wrote a good book, unfortunately, I know for a fact that 30-40% of the orders shown in the book are not original. It’s happened before when author described in the book awards that never existed. Paul writes that Red Banner 8th award with serial number 4 was observed but a half a year ago he said they never existed. Muzalevsky is very knowledgeable writer and has access to many resources but I’m not sure that the case when picture in his book v can be considered as prove.
Again, I never said they these medals didn't exist. I'm just very skeptical. Why goldplating wasn't mentioned in regulation for this medal?

There is another reason why I am skeptical. This medal was established in 1976 and wasn’t awarded after early 90s. How come nobody saw or heard of gold plated variation until late 90s? Maybe it didn’t exist until late 90s or some officers did unofficial goldplating for themselves. It was very popular among privates to do similar things to their badges. It’s look strange that this variation wasn’t observed before and there are hundreds of them appeared on the Russian market within last couple years. They are all good quality, which makes people think it’s official mint production. I can observe many of them on online Russian auction sites. Again, it’s just my opinion.

Precious metal tester

I use this high tech device, it is used for treating warts and costs 50 cents.

It also reacts with any non-precious metal by turning black when mixed with spittle or water.

I was introduced to it by an Estonia/Russian gent who is a great collector within his limited means and has my utmost respect.

I was slightly amused, but it is an invaluable item to check quickly metal content.

Hi Dude, pleased to see you back on the forum!

I use jeweler material, it is a set of little bottles of various acids, more and more powerfull, to detect gold (8k, 14k, 18 and 24k, platinium must resist to the strongest acid), and an acid for silver. The most difficult , rubbing the tynniest part possible of the medal on the stone test plate to have a trace of metal to be tested with a taer of acid on it.

Medal Veteran of the armed forces

Hello,

here is a medal for a veteran of the armed forces which is gold plated.
Just another funny fake or where they awarded to high ranking persons?

regards
Andreas

This medal (goldplated) is rare. If the medal you show here is from German eBay, this seller sells it on ongoing basis.
I think it's fake (made from a regular medal).

check

check if the medal is goldplated behind the red star. Thats a good sign if it´s genuine.
