Fake? / Identification Help

I recently bought a badge and I've looked on several websites and around the forum trying to identify it. Between the fact that I only paid like $7 for it and my inability to find one like it I figure it is some kind of fake or tourist creation, but I was wondering if anyone could identify it or have any information on it?

CPUKiller,

This is a genuine badge - which exists in 2 different sizes. It was given to anyone who was at the frontline during WW2.
It has already been shown/discussed on this forum.

Re: Fake? / Indentification Help

I think it's called the "frontnovik" badge?

Cool, thanks guys, I looked all over the place and couldn't find it. Sometimes it just takes asking the right people.

Re: Fake? / Indentification Help

Welcome to the forum (though with a handle like yours you admittedly raise a few eyebrows of moderators;)).

It is directly addressed here as the badge in question: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...al-medals.html

I have one with the document as well and if I'm not mistaken, it was one of the first "official" veterans' badges to use the modern pin and clip attachment.

Marc - you say there are two designs? Do you have a photo of the other? I've only ever seen (or noticed) this one.:)

Re: Fake? / Indentification Help

Yeah, I get that sometimes. I actually got the nick because a long time ago I used to overclock processors and I burned out more than one lol (this was before motherboards and CPUs had overheat sensors, etc.)

I don't know if it's the one Marc was talking about, but I have seen one like this one but instead of 1941-1945 it has some roman numerals like XX-XXI or something like that.

Re: Fake? / Indentification Help

Phillip,

Only the size differs. The small variation (very common) is as you described, pinback attached. The large variation (from memory it measures about 4cm in diameter) has a screwback fixation, and is very scarce, probably issued in the low hundreds. It is said that these large ones were a special order from the city of Moscow to be presented to specific people.

I can't say more than that at this time. I'll have to try and locate my large one (it is very safely put away somewhere, I know it, but where :()
