About three or four years ago, someone locally was selling a group with five For Valor medals. They had belonged to Zhukov's (or another big marshal) driver.

bravery.help needed

Hi
I just got a bravery medal with a strange sign before the serialnumber. The same russian letter is apperent before the preprinted serialnumber in the award booklet. The serial number it self looks like it was struck during heavy artillery fire. Could anyone make any sence of it. Why is the letter there? Is it a duplicate? The medal is a late one but the serial is not that late. Whats the guys name? Any story would be greatly appriciated!!!
Best

Hello,

from the awarding date of the medal, it is a medal without serial number.
Maybe the owner have done it, or a faker?

The guys name is: Skragul, Viktor, Iwanowitsch (?)

Just my two pence, but lets wait for the experts.

regards
Andreas

Funny, that Russian letter looks like a "Sh", but I have no idea why it's there before the S/N!!! First time I see that!

Yes indeed :p  Also 1st time I see such an irregularly struck S/N!

I'm really curious to read the experts opinion on this!

Looking at the date in the medal booklet 1970 this would require a non numbered type 2 variant 3 medal. I have never seen a Bravery medal with the "sh" on it like this and the serial number is badly punched this in my opinion would be someone was trying their hand at making a serial number on a T2V3 medal. But why the "sh" I don't even venture a guess on that. If the booklet is genuine get yourself an unumbered T2V3 for it. It is doubtful that this medal and booklet belong together anyway and certainly with a number on it now it definatly doesn't match the booklet. It's too bad people do that to medals. I came across a Combat Service medal that has been demolished by someone trying to punch a 4 digit SN on it the punches push a circular bulge through to the face, then it is hung it on a Lenin 100 hanger!

hi

I don´t really agree with you. I have a feeling that it´s something more to it than just a fake. Why bother to put serial number to such an common medal. It would have been perfectly fine without the number and would still be right for the booklet. The letter in front of the number is what puzzels me most. Why is it there? Culd it be a reissue to someone that had spent time in the GULAG? Is it done on his unit? I need more opinions. It doesn´t make sense to put serialnumber on a medal that makes it a variation that is exactly the same price as the unnumbered one.

Maybe the awardee of the medal did it himself?

The number and the letter both appear in the award document, perhaps the owner needed to remind himself which docs and medals went together?

Hi,

It might seem like an obvious thing, but can you ask the seller for any details?

It is an interesting item, as you say, why bother to put a serial number on such a common medal.

The booklet number is stamped on the medal.

I've seen this before.

Rusty.
