The Border Troops were created on 28th February 1992 and were originally part of the State Department Of National Security Under The Government Of Armenia, from 17th May 1995 to 8th November 1996 part of the Ministry Of National Security, from 8th November 1996 to 11th June 1999 part of the Ministry Of Internal Affairs And National Security, from 11th June 1999 to 17th December 2002 part of the Ministry Of National Security and since 17th December 2002 part of the National Security Service Under The Government Of Armenia.
