Mystery Korean Medal.
Now here's a really fascinating and strange Korean "medal". The reverse is very much like many a DPRK award but would you members like to take a guess at what this "medal" was commemorating? If I didn't have a picture of the front too I'd certainly had never guessed.
All I'll say is it is not a sport related event and it was so strange I just had to buy it (Still waiting for it to land). |

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
Dunno, guess you´ll have to show the obverse... Children´s festival maybe?

Not a Children's festival.... I'll let folks take more guesses at it and I'll post the obverse later this week or maybe at the weekend if no-one gets close. It's one of those quirky things that makes you just think WHAT?

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
Good guess but I don't think there were any Koreans on that flight... What this commemorates is a little bit "different" to stopping an incident, more of creating something.

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
This Medal landed here today and I was quite surprised by the dimensions. 60mm wide and 70mm tall... No more guesses?

Commemoration of the first Korean Gay Pride parade?

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
Something to do with the Olympic Games, held in the occupied southern portions of Korea?
Nope, those were 1988. And in 1986 the Asian games were in occupied Seoul. (1982 in New Delhi.) The sad sound of multiple strikeouts echoes, but It "feels" international sports-related. Last edited by medals73; 06-07-2011 at 04:51 PM. |

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
Not sports..... The pink in the ribbon is a little strange...... but not a give away I believe.

Re: Mystery Korean Medal.
It is just that, to me, sports medals have the most unlikely color combinations of any ribbons.
Such as this, Service Medal for IV Asian Games, Djakarta, 1962. Kind of relevant to the forum as it was picked up in Kabul and is believed to have been awarded to Sardar Mohd Faruq Siraj, the president of the Afghan organising committee for those games. |
