Vladimirskij, Aleksej Viktorovich, Lieutenant-General, Head Of Operations, 3rd Army
Guys,
I am posting these pics for Alex.S, who is having some computer problems. One of the nicest groups I have ever seen! Unfortunately the original photo quality wasn't the best and the detail you see in the closeups is as good as it could get.

Re: Viktor Alekseevich Vladimirsky
Is it just me or does something not add up here?
Where is Виктор Алексеевич Владимирский on "the site" or anywhere else on the net?

Re: Viktor Alekseevich Vladimirsky
Something's wrong indeed. I mean - the group itself look probable. The fact that he had Grunwald Badge would suggest that he was in the Polish Army for some time, yet he is not listed anywhere (and must have been important if he got Grunwald Cross III). Also, it seems he was awarded 5 awards from other country (non-soviet, non-polish), but the only campaign medals he got were
Warsaw and Berlin. Strange. Also on the photograph he seems to be wearing most of these awards, but in a totally different way. Also, why would he wear the Order of the British Empire (?) on an original, independent suspension and other foreign awards on the Soviet multi-award suspension? The only reason that comes to my mind as to why he is not on podvig, nor anywhere on the internet is that he was with the State Security. But then again - his time in Polish uniformed services would also be related to the state security, and there would be a trace of him in the IPN inventory list. Maybe the group is put togeather (from apparently original pieces), or maybe we are just missing something. IF it is not authentic, I wander who the guy on the photo is. |

Re: Viktor Alekseevich Vladimirsky
Looks like it's this guy
Victor Alex... Alex Victor... who can keep them straight? :chuckle Cutting and pasting Алексей Викторович Владимирский into PODVIG brings him up by the look of it.

Re: Lieutenant-General Aleksej Viktorovich Vladimirskij
Now that's cleared up.
Here is the citation for Kutuzov 2nd #336. His first Red Banner awarded for pre-GPW actions.

Re: Lieutenant-General Aleksej Viktorovich Vladimirskij
Here is the citation for his Red Banner №2 #4169.
It would seem his second Red Banner (not a №3), №4 and Lenin were all long service awards.

Simply amazing group, and one that would never ever be available for sale in the West nowadays.
