In early days from 1945 until 1964 you have all orders named after cllasses.I class,II class and III class. After that peiode from 1964 untill 1991 all orders are named whit name and inscription as Order for military merit whit silver swords,Order for military merit whit golden swords,Order for military merit whit grand star.
Also you have early types boxes whit same inscriptions for classes or just plain ones only whit national crest and late ones whit full name of a order.
And yes all boxes are in Cyrill and latin script.Boxes itself are in all kind of shapes and sizes and allmost in any colour you like. But early types are in better quality and craftmanship is realy very good.

Order of Military Merit 2nd Class

Here's the 2nd class that I just recieved.

It's interesting to note that even though it is the 6 torch variation it is still made out of silver!

I was under the impression that the later (6 torch) pieces were not made from silver.

Here it is:

Hi
6 torch pieces are made from 1964 onward,so in early periode until late seventies or early eighties every piece is silver. And small secret 6 torche pieces made from tombak are harder to find than silver ones.

Dejan,

Thanks for the info.

A question for you: if 6-torch pieces were made from silver, why do they often look like there's some sort of bright silvery finish (silver or nickel plating???) and that finish is peeling / wearing off?

If you look at Rusty's pics of the reverse - you'll see what I mean.

Thanks,
William

Sometimes when I tried to clean some pieces it looks like they are coted whit some kind of lacquer. So when I finished they looks rather matt finished. So I realy dont know what is the reason for that. But if these orders are marked whit silver marks they must be made from silver. What is on my mind is also that quallity of silver is maybe not to standard or something else.

Dejan,

How would one tell if it's tombak or silver?
