Another soviet uniform question...

What does the 'shoulder string' (I don't know the proper english word) on the uniform of the soviet troops stand for? How was it won and who could recive it?

that is a cord attached for troops are demobilizing. it was not official, but it was used simply to spruce up the uniforms so that they stood out on their special day.

Yes, and no. It was also officially established for Honor Guard and military parades.

I believe the word is aiguilette.

I think this question was asked before (can't recall which section it was in).

Anyway, there are two variations of aiguillettes (I think the Russian term is akselbanti):
  • silver-colored braid and loop
  • gold-colored braid and loop w/an additional cord ending with a metallic "needle".
