Vladimir Putin's KGB rank

Dear All,

I am trying to draw the shoulder board of the Lt. Col rank (KGB) for the Wikipedia page on President Putin. Any advice will be helpful about this, or if you can tell me the various medals he earned while in the KGB. Thanks. :)

I know a couple of people who knew him back in the day, but they never saw him in uniform, not even once. I spoke to one retired security guy I know, but who did not know Putin or ever see him in uniform. I want to make that part clear.

OK, that guy said that Putin has the followng: Three Irreproachable Service - KGB medals, Distinguished Worker of State Security badge, graduate of Leningrad University badge and graduate of Andropov Red Banner Institute badge, supposedly the highest course for KGB officers. He pointed out to me that Putin was not a highly decorated KGB officer, as least as is known to the public.

As for what his shoulder boards looked like, is there some reson to think they were other than standard?

I'm sorry that I can't vouch for or confirm this information, I'm only passing along what I was told when I inquired on your behalf. Maybe it will at least give you a place to start and someone else can fill in the blanks. Good luck and please let us know when they publish your painting.

Dear Chuck,

Wow, thanks a lot. I know the KGB shoulder boards are standard, but I have not seen a photo of the shoulder boards themselves.

I will attach a photo of Putin the uniform.
