I have wanted one of these since I saw a drawing of it in the first hand-drawn book from Kutsenko regarding MVD and KGB awards and badges years and years ago. I have only seen this award one other place in color and that was in Avers No. 8 . But never ever had I even a hint of what the accompanying document would look like.:thumbsup

I only have a very vague idea of what these were given for, outside of what the medal itself says. Does the documentation offer anymore insight into why this one was awarded?

I truly think I would give up significant parts of my collection for a set like this one.:thumbsup:D:thumbsup

I was offered the document about a year ago, but had no idea about either the existence of the badge or the document's tie to it. Neat!

A KGB award for literature and cinema. :D I don't know if more needs to be said, what a great item from its time. Signed by KGB chief Krychkov too, poor guy was only in office for a couple of years before having to do hard time at Matrosskaya Tishina for his role in the 1991 coup.

As to the awardee: I assume it's Belarus producer Yuri Rybchenok ( Юрий Рыбченок ). Doing some quick research, it's possible he received the award for his "Special Purpose Unit" (Отряд специального назначения) mini-series about WWII agent Nikolai Kuznetsov.

The document itself is one of the finest KGB "diplom"/"gramota" type documents I have ever seen. There's the obligatory Dzerzhinsky portrait, but the rest is unique to this award.

This is definitely a rarity among the KGB awards, especially since it was usually given to civilians.

And George - nothing personal, but Krychkov got off easy from everything I understand. If it hadn't been for him, the KGB wouldn't have been disbanded by a nervous and paranoid Yeltsin.:thumbsdown

Nonetheless, I'd love to have such a set.:D
