Andrew,
I was actually surprised about this sudden interest in the BW documents. To be honest I have never considered them rare, just unusual. OK, I guess I sit corrected :) You know what, I have 5 or 6 huge boxes full of award cards (thousands of them), so I am not sure I would want to do the digging to make a $20 sale :), but for the sake of research I will. I have thought for some reason, that the BW variation was made at the same time, so I am curious to see some dates. Alexei P.S. I believe there are three variations (the collar tab on Stalin's coat, remember?) A. Quote:

Alexei, thanks for your answer. Of course there is no reason to look through all those hundreds of documents for 20 USD. But if you accidentally find such variation, please keep me in mind :)
And this holds true not only for this medal. I'm looking for some other rare variations of common documents. For example Polar Region issued not by a regular military unit, but by Murmansk city Executive Committee. Here is a picture. If you want, I can send you a list of variations I'm looking for. |

Jubilee Medal "XXX Years Of The Soviet Army And Navy".
Hello,
in the most cases I saw a round ring with 30th anniversary of soviet army and navy medals. Is a U-shaped ring at the 30th anniversary medal a rare variant? regards and thanks Andreas |

I personnally have never seen such (myself or on the web) and I find it a little suspicious. But considering that I am just a novice, I cannot provide an authoritative answer. Sorry.

I just looked at about 10 of mine
They were all round but most had a machined, rough surface on the front of the ring like this one.
I would wonder why someone would fake something issued in the millions but the answer, of course, is because they can. Last edited by Jeffrey Meffert; 01-19-2007 at 10:27 PM. Reason: further comment |

Fake Anniversary of Soviet Armed Forces medal documents
The idea here is to start a thread about the x0 year of the Soviet Armed Forces medal documents.
This example is something I just received; an extremely nice (I hope) 30 years medal doc. Nice and clean, without the more common water or wear damages aside from the usual corner and spine wear. This is a heavily awarded medal no doubt, but after 60+ years these documents are not that common, at least in my surfings of the ebay. And this example, as it's nice and clear and with the attempt at decent caligraphy is, I think, a good example of immediate post-GPW documentiation. Enough talk, what do you guys think? And you would be so kind as to help with the name and rank, please? TIA
