Cleaning Ushanka

Hello friends:

I require further from your experience ;)
This question is very simple and very but very domestic :). Can I wash a ushanka (official version)?. Let it in the washer and give him a good beating ... :):)
Greetings.

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

I wouldn't put it in the washing machine.
Perhaps dry-cleaning would work (although that would add modern chemicals).
Maybe just a good stiff brush and a vacuum cleaning?

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

Hello neferet:

I have tow ushankas that I cleaned using my waser and dryer. They both have synthetic fur. I did notice that the strings that secure the two earflaps on top of my 1980's military version started to get frayed along the leading edge and that a seam along the inside portion of the cap that touches your head was loose after drying that I needed to sew up. They were both a little large when they arrived , washing and drying them did shrink both to a size that fits me better.

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

Ufffff. I will be cautious about washing, it would be a shame to break down with a wash too strong.
With hats, I'm pretty rough :(:(. The clean with a toothbrush, soap and water and then rinsed with water jet with a hose. The result has so far been great. It is very clean, but with care as little as possible, dampen the rim of cardboard and when the visor is of vegetable fiber.
Now you count ...
greetings and a beer ... :cheers

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

NEVER EVER put any Soviet cloth in a dryer. Unfortunately I've learned this the hard way (on modern camo uniforms at least).

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

The online marketing places are flooded with new ushankas that look the same. If you have an authentic, used Soviet ushanka - keep it that way and buy a new unused ushanka for wear or whatever use. Just my two cents.

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

You have every reason Tretov. Ushanka is one of the Soviet era. The wash is for better conservation and for having a "better presence". If you can not wash them go better. I have to contemplate and for the pleasure of collectors but not to use it regularly. My hats and Ushanka are "a treasure" for me.
greetings,

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

Also it depends, what era are we talking about, 1980 or 1940, etc..
But I am also with Tretov.. keep it like it is! If you really have to wash it contact a dry cleaner that deals with museums..

Cheers

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

Wash it for better presence? It is bound to be epic fail. Keep it as it is and use another one when it's cold outside :)

Re: Cleaning Ushanka

I agree with Tretov on this one. However, I use a middle-late period soviet ushanka and I have not washed it. It doesn´t stink, and the "it was there" apprarance makes it look cool.
