Dual award dagger
I saw one of those about 13 - 15 years ago. Set up was the same george in/on handle, Ann on plate on side. I do not remember a date on the back of the plate but there was an inscription on the blade rather than frou-frou. Inscripion included date of March 1916. Date on reverse of plate for the dagger here appears to be 1916. Dual award is rare. *if real* afterall when was the last one I saw? For that other one, doing research I found there was a series of engagements in the black sea in March 1916 for which daggers would/could have been awarded but it would have been nearly impossible to confirm exactly which one that dagger represented. So, regretably, I didn't take it.

The first one is fake for sure, second is unquestionable item-good. First in that complectation very strange, and if it's original- price will be more than 20000 US. I don't know collectors market in USA, but I know the prices in Russia for that kind of items. When I\am walking by some Collectors Show, I' am looking how quick the items migrate back to the USSR from Europe and USA also.

If so, not military
The answer is in the mint mark on one side of the blade. I know it's hard to take good pictures of shiny silver things. Perhaps if you laid it on a flatbed scanner.
I would guess dagger for a fire department dress uniform. Not just because of the flame spitting dragon but because the way the hilt recapitulates a fireman's axe. |

I would risk a statement, that this dagger shows some german influence.
If for some reason it is belived to be russian (mark, russian letters etc.) then it could be bulgarian for example. However, that ornament on hilt looks a bit crude, maybe too crude to be something official? |

About that eagle
Although in this forum we tend to look at the double headed eagle as a Russian eagle or Romanov eagle, in fact, it is also a Hapsburg eagle (they were all related anyway). It looks like a 1911 or 1914 mint mark but I think it may hail from the Austro-Hungarian Empire rather than the Tsar.

Miphuhiz,
Could you make a pencil rubbing on a piece of paper of the mark on the blade, and then scan the rubbing; it should be clearer. Marc |
